CoCo Ichibanya Curry House

Who’s up for Japanese Curry?  😉 Let’s go to CoCo! Not the selling tea and fruit juice Coco, but the other internationally famous CoCo fully known as CoCo iChibanya Curry House.

Welcome to CoCo!

CoCo iChibanya Curry House was early established in Nagoya, Japan in year of 1978. Its number of stores has multiplied ever since. They have international existences in Taiwan, China, USA, Hongkong as well as recent additions in Thailand and Singapore – where I have been wanting to try but everytime the queue is unacceptably long. So when I finally arrived in Taipei and saw lots of their outlets here and there with no queue in front of their doors I just can’t resist to drop by!

But as a proverb say, you are more attracted to something far away compared to one that is near, I pass CoCo’s NTU outlet (台大店) almost everyday but I don’t really have the will to pay a visit. Finally.. one chance comes when my partner and I decided to have dinner around 西門町 (Ximending) area, he kindly offered me to give CoCo a try  😛

CoCo provides customized order for every curry rice item. What you needa do is to follow these steps (applicable only for curry (omelette) rice order):

1) Choose which type of main course you want – chicken, pork, seafood, creamy mushroom, etc

2) Decide your hunger level – read: which amount of rice (飯量), respective price details below.
200g -20元 NT$20 less
300g 標準 Standard price
400g +30元 NT$30 more
500g +60元 NT$60 more
600g +90元 NT$90 more

3)  Pick your tolerable hotness level (辣度): not spicy, mild, medium hot, hot, very hot, super hot and crazy hot

Another point to notice is they offer value set with different additional charge depends on how many side items you prefer. Side items available are daily soup, mini salad, dessert, and drinks. Note: for dessert and drinks you can only pick menu items priced less than NT$70.

  • Set A (2 additional items): additional  NT$60
  • Set B (3 additional items): additional NT$85
  • Set C (4 additional items): additional NT$110

Enough of the whole system explanation, let’s just proceed to the show, shall we?

My partner ordered Omelet Rice Curry with Squid (not spicy, normal rice) coupled with Set B: Daily Soup, Assorted Ice Cream for dessert, and Orange Juice.

My choice fell to Omelet Rice Curry with Chicken Cutlet (medium hot, normal rice) coupled with Set A: Mini Salad and Mulberry Earl Grey Tea. Note for those planning-to-go: don’t be afraid to choose spiciness that you want! My medium hot curry almost tasted mild. And a bit of regret wasting the rice; I should have ordered less rice, consider it a takeaway point for next visit then .

By the way, anyone wonder why we ended up with such kind of order selection? Hehehe it was so we can in the end try all of their sides: soup, salad, dessert, plus drink for each of us  😎

Now..pictures parade time!
