Sufood (舒果)

One day, we were bored with eating fish, lamb, beef or pork. Thus, we decided to find a good vegetarian restaurant. Personally, we don’t really like most of vegan restaurants. They create meat using “so claimed” no animal products. Why bother to offer meat if it’s not even from animal? We once ate this “fake” meat and so we are not sure we want to do that again. Let’s just stick with spinach, broccoli or alfalfa :). However, this vegan restaurant, called  Sufood, gives us different impression.

We didn’t really realize there was no meat until we were halfway to finishing our meal. It is not because they provide another kind of “meat”, but purely because their dishes are great and somehow we were just too busy enjoying our dishes :-). Actually, when you are ordering your meal, the waitress will ask what kind of vegan you are (strict vegan, ovo-vegan, lacto-vegan, etc) so they can customize your dishes based on your dietary type.

In the beginning, they provide three kinds of vegetable as appetizer: yam, white water snowflake and tomato with jelly.

Rosemary bread with mayonnaise (this mayonnaise is so good!!!). You can actually change the mayonnaise with blue jam. It was then followed by our salads. We picked fresh vegetable stick dip (時蔬棒沙拉) and verdure salad with Caesar salad dressing (田園鮮蔬沙拉).

Pumpkin soup (米蘭南瓜濃湯) and pea soup (青漾蕈菇濃湯) became our choices and they looked really nice. They surely have a good looking and tasty pea soup there.

After that, we got a mini size brown rice with asparagus before our main course. Its size was not a problem for us, since we don’t really into this side dish.

For main course, we ordered pesto spaghetti (香草松子羅勒義大利麵) and baked conchiglie with curry sauce and hericium erinaceus (焗烤鮮蔬起士通心粉). We are sure you know what the first one is. How’s about the second one? Conchiglie is one kind of pasta shaped like a seashell. Hericium erinaceus itself is a type of edible mushroom. Its name maybe is weird, but it’s not a big deal since it tastes good!

For dessert, we ordered a chocolate cake (which is currently not available anymore :() and lemon apple pie (香檸蘋果派).

Overall, Sufood impressed us with its food quality and service. If someone asks us for a good vegan restaurant suggestion, we will definitely recommend this one. It is not so pricey but offers many good things. Like many other fine dining restaurants in Taipei, you can also get a free ballpoint! 🙂 One thing to be remembered, they don’t put English name in their signboard, so don’t depend on it when you are trying to locate this restaurant. Instead, you can look for a pink signboard with these two Chinese word: 舒果. They have a lot of stores all over Taiwan, you can check their website for the addresses. Don’t forget to make a reservation because they have quite a lot of customers.
