Yes, Bear (是熊)

Yes, Bear is a cute cafe located in the street of Daan neighborhood, just behind the hustle and bustle of Dunhua South Road. It was a random pick for me and my partner-in-crime for our lunch date, which just happened to be Valentine’s day that day! We initially chose another cafe nearby but was drawn to this much cuter looking cafe on the way to our prior destination.I’ve noticed this cafe when browsing some blogs, and placed it in my definitely-must-try checklist. Didn’t even expect I will have it visited much earlier  😉 Well, the popularity was proven though. As we walked in hoping, they still have empty table for walk-in, we were feeling hopeful as it seemed empty. Hmmm but it wasn’t. The first floor was fully booked albeit no one showing up yet. We were asked if we were okay with a table in the basement. Phew, better than nothing, we thought.

Off we went down the stairs, it was quite spacious. We felt cozy and we really liked the ambience. Oh! One thing to mention.. I happened to get a special seat – which is…dun dun duuuunnn..a rocking chair! Surprised? I was worried when I first saw the chair, and since my p-i-c preferred to sit on a “normal” one, I then declared “challenge accepted!”. It felt weird at first, but afterwards I kinda forgot the fact that I must balance myself while trying to sit comfortably.

We were left with a menu for quite sometimes until the waiter came back to take our order. There weren’t many choices. I heard their specialties are brunch sets and pancakes. But brunch sets are only available on weekends, hence I was left with no option.

My p-i-c ordered one from their pasta section and I chose one of the pancake items. She opted for super spicy (大辣) “Spicy Garlic Chicken Pasta”, and what she got was really hot. I don’t need to worry as her acceptable level of spiciness is beyond normal  Mine was “Homemade Strawberry Pancake”. It was quite a big portion and came with a pat of butter, a scoop of ice cream, some slices of strawberry, strawberry jam and creamy foam. We also ordered a serving of their fries as a side.

For drinks (they have “minimum one drink per diner” regulation there), I called for Hot honey milk and Ice coffee with ice cream for her. My drink was just normal but interestingly served with bee-shaped honey art on top.

Overall it was a refreshing experience. I would love to re-visit on weekends to try their famous brunches, hopefully soon!  😉
