CHABLIZ (Oyster & Wine)

This post has been postponed and postponed for quite a number of times. Hence I commit to start writing and finish it all at once on this lazy slow Saturday. 😐 CHABLIZ is a not a restaurant, and definitely not a family-friendly eating place. It is meant simply for a hang-out gastropub to laze out, have a light meal and sip a good wine to end the day with a wide smile.  😎

The place itself is not big, and just enough to serve even less than 10 people. As we came there on a weekday evening, there seemed we were the only patrons that time (or were we too early? probably there would be more people coming in for wines an hour or two hour later, who knows). We ordered their set menu (NTD 320), which includes appetizer (1 choice of 2: raw oyster or German sausages), light cream clam soup, main course (1 choice of 4 – we picked the same thing, beef steak! 😛 ), drink (1 choice of 2: wine or tea – we chose a glass of each to try both their white and red wines), and a cup of ice cream as dessert.

Now..waves of photos, like the saying, pictures speak thousands of words. Hence we better show you more pictures then more words, agree? lol

The clam soup is too watery (or maybe it’s Taiwanese style of cream soup since we encounter many of this kind).

While we believe you cannot go wrong with sausages, we believe the taste of our appetizer is the same or maybe a little bit worse than our home-made sausage.

The best part of our dining experience was the main course itself, the steak! Well, it’s clearly not a top-notch quality but compared to their other dishes, it tasted fine.

We’re not sure if we would come back there. For a “oyster and wine” gastropub, we think it doesn’t worth your money and time to go there. The oyster was not fresh and prepared averagely (you can find a lot of other places offering finer oyster in Greater Taipei), while the wine itself was far from “high-end”. We believe it’s just one or two level above airline wine. We’ll try to explore more of this kind of gastronomy line for sure! However, our suggestion, don’t go to this place if you have high expectation from a gastropub. On the bright side, it’s affordable and since it’s not so crowded, perhaps you can book this place to get some privacy (maybe you’re an artist ;), who knows).
