Paddington Garden (柏林頓花園)

Widely known as the “to-go” place for pancakes in Taipei, I have heard the name of Paddington Garden for quite sometimes. However, as other happening places, the hesitance to go and fight (read: queue) in this boiling hot weather is beyond the craving.

However one sunny afternoon on our regular saturdate, we stumble upon this place in Zhongxiao Dunhua area where we decided to have our lunch, prior to roaming around the city followed by a lazy weekend tea. We happened to pass by the branch there and saw there was no visible sign of line. Well, no harm to peek in and confirm, right? The place was full, but as all eateries in Taiwan seem to follow the 1.5-2hours maximum dining time, we were told that there would be a table available just in 10 minutes. Not bad, huh?

As we were too lazy to stroll further and my belly had started to sing anyway, we okay-ed the greeter and moved to a cute stationery shop next door (of course because they have air-con!). Not long after, I haven’t even finished looking around the store but my partner’s phone was already ringing. Yay, food first and back there after full. Life is good 😉 (coz it’s weekend!)

Their menu is quite comprehensive. You can find almost everything, brunch sets, pancakes (certainly!), sandwiches, pastas, and even Japanese-style lunch set meals that are served with rice.

And, what I like about Paddington Garden is that although there is a regulation of minimum order, it is simply an amount if I’m not mistaken. Surely it is not a minimum a drink per person. This is very relieving if our point coming down is not for tea, but full meal or even brunch. Well it is common for a brunch set to include tea/coffee and a glass of juice, right?

Another thumb up from me personally is the fact that all brunch sets are served with a side of PANCAKES! Yeah! 😎  It was to frustrating for me to decide on brunch option in other brunch houses where most of the time there are separated as pancake set, toast set, omelette, etc. So, it is hard to get omelette with pancakes on side.

We decided to have brunch sets; Bacon and Mushroom Scrambled Eggs for my partner and British Doubled Eggs for me.  Truthfully, I am not so much of sunny-side-up person, but there isn’t option for eggs customisation so I just had to stick with it.

Oh! And we chose 2 of the 3 pancake selections: Earl Grey flavoured and Cashew Nuts. FYI, the other one was just normal pancakes so, of course, we picked those two.

Scrambled Eggs were perfectly cooked, and surprisingly so was my sunny-side-ups! They were cooked just to my taste; not runny but yet too dense. Bacon, fish & chips, salad and beans were normal. For this brunch set, we were given only tea or coffee, so no juice provided. Tea-wise was not satisfying enough according to him; for me it was just mere red tea.

Ambience was alright at the ground floor but we were not sure about the attic. Kitchen seemed to be quite busy outside and inside. It looked like they cook the food items especially pancakes outside, and just some prep work and beverage inside.
