Have you ever passed by Ximending (西門町) area and noticed a restaurant with a tired sad looking dog lazing around in front? We were not sure if it was meant to attract people to come and visit. However it seemed so pitiful with its tail not wiggling, looking tired and just laying down. Hmm, I recalled seeing more than one branch in operation in that area.Feeling hungry without any specific craving, one random night, we dropped by there being attracted by the menu having lasagna. It was quite sometimes after I had good lasagnas in Cafe Bastille and its affiliation, La Bistro Cafe (小公館). You can probably check them out as they offer nice set meals – we will need to have a revisit to share this as no enough photo taken there to be shown. The price was also quite reasonable, similar practice with that of Pasta Bar.
Back to this place of interest, upon ordering at the counter, we quickly were brought to our seats. We were served with our drinks, and soon our soups and bread.
Drinks (Cranberry soda for him, Mango juice for me) tasted normal – start thinking that almost none of beverage parts in our previous posts is exceptional huh? Nevermind. At least they are not unacceptable 😀 Soup (Corn bacon for both of us) was alright as well. Bread-wise, my partner was not really a fan. Well, those were garlic breads without crispiness. Not that special, but I can still finish those.
Less than 10 mins after we were done with the soups, while we were just about to feel bored and look around, our mains arrived. Sorry to mention that we did order the same main dish, Beef Lasagna. It was not bad.
If I were to compare Gratin House’s and La Bistro Cafe’s or Cafe Bastille’s, sadly I will say I’ll go with the latters. Besides yummier and served with nicer garlic bread, they also won as they come with lower price. Maybe we should take the location as consideration though, that way it seems more reasonable that food in Ximending is charged higher than of in other places. Every time we see this place, it is most of the time crowded, so well you can always consider to try it when you are in town.
