Who of you are creative people? Where do you normally go or hang out? Do you know that in Taipei there is this place called FabCafe: A Place for Creating?
Alongside its presence in Tokyo, Bangkok, Barcelona and Sitges (latter two are in Spain), FabCafe provides all creative-minded people with an all-in-one place where everyone (yes! no discrimination assured) can make use of their facilities: Mac, laser cutting machine, 3D printer rentals.
We were curious about how all these are wrapped up and so we dropped by on a public holiday afternoon. As expected Huashan 1914 Creative Park was overcrowded with people. Exhibitions of Aranzi Aronzo, My Little Prince, Beatles were still queued by visitors – was it because they were coming to an end soon?
We felt a glimpse of worry as there is probability of our intended cafe will be full of people, which means wasting our precious time waiting? 🙁
Not sure about the exact position, we roamed around the whole area once and finally managed to see its existence. A lot of people were standing in front! Bad sign! My partner had started to drag me and giving signal to just give up. Of course I insisted to take a look and ask the greeter first. Voila! Inside the cafe were quite empty, actually. So people outside were just making use of their porch to rest?
We were quickly seated but only after a while able to make order – seems only 1 iPad is used? Let’s just let that slid. Our order came just right after we each picked a magazine from their rack to read: Wildberry Banana smoothie for him, Brown sugar latte for me, and Biligune (not sure what that actually is) Chocolate cake to be shared.
Ah! We forgot to mention earlier that coffee in FabCafe is taken care of by Gabee. No idea about Gabee at all? Then you haven’t really stayed in Taiwan that long, or there’s possibility you don’t like coffee 😛 Gabee was popular as latte art competition as well as Taiwan barista championship winner. Uncertain if I put my expectation too high upon knowing this fact, but I found my latte ordinary. It’s not bad, but I mean nothing very special about it (as compared to PEG Coffee’s latte I had last time).
His smoothie and our Chocolate cake are acceptable. FabCafe does provide great space for mere chit-chat, gathering or even temporary workspace. No matter if your idea is big or small, easy or hard to accomplish, just make your way and try to make your dreams come true!
