One clear day (it was winter, but weather was unexpectedly friendly), we were too happy to waste the great atmosphere outside and took a random walk around Fuzhong in Banqiao district as it has been awhile. We walked and walked and walked.. until we finally reached Central Banqiao area. Starting to feel tired, I initiated we find a place for a quick rest.
Exploring the neighborhood behind shops across Xinban Metro Park (新板都會公園), we casually came nearby a mysterious little cafe hidden in a small alley. Not sure what it offers, we took a peek on the menu hung in front of their gate. The cafe was named ‘Awhile’ – guess it did match with our awhile of random roam that time. Surprisingly they simply provided two-leaf-menu. One for their light foods (options of Panini and Danish pastry) and one for beverages. Second surprising fact, their beverages equal fresh fruit drinks (juices, au lait and apple tea).
We decided to have a try while yes, at the same time were too lazy to further walk around to find another place. Great! They have empty seats available. This place does have very limited seats; a big table at the back which seats about 8 max we guess, high bar that seats for about 4-5 parties, 2 tables for 2 each in front and 2 tables for 4 each outside. We chose to sit outside of course to adore the weather and view the coming-soon sunset (in the end we were too busy playing mobile games to notice 🙄 ).
The two people at the counter were warm and friendly enough; the lady then approached us at our seats outside to introduce what they have. We decided on each a drink and a set of two danish pastry to share – we were more thirsty than hungry. Kiwi and pineapple juice for him and banana au lait (apology as we didn’t take picture of this one) for me. It was a bit difficult for me to pick my drink as they ran out of apple and more than 50% of their drinks contain apple inside 😐 . For the pastry, we randomly selected one garlic-olive-Italian and one simple fruit jam flavours.
Drinks are confirmed freshly made; the price is therefore very reasonable (or should we say cheaper than most of fresh fruit beverage stalls). No high expectation but I suddenly recalled Ho!d Juice Bar’s super delicious juices. How great will that be if ‘Awhile’ can also offer wider range of fruit juices 😀
Danish pastries are alright, served warm and crunchy. I felt like it was half pastry and half bread though; however, it wasn’t bad.
We gave this place a good 3.5 stars: fresh and delicious snacks and drinks, reasonably set price, readily available seats (okay, you know the importance level we’d like to convey right?) – what else we customers can hope for, agree?
Later on we noticed many decoration items are all about ‘bunny’. Hmm, we were left wondering, probably we can ask during our next visit.. or if you happen to pay them a visit you can surely help us check out?
