What’s your impression when you heard the name of this place, “The Toast Heaven”? Literally a place full with variety of toasts? YES! It may be disappointing for you who aren’t bread lovers, but their menu just covers toasts – sweet french toasts with ice cream and fruits toppings and savoury ones with ham, sausages, and other meaty items.
Being recently opened in our neighbourhood, we’ve been seeing the hype going on in posts by local bloggers. Finally after couple weeks, it’s our turn!
We got there on a Sunday late afternoon; hence we expect very much less waiting time. However, our greeter mentioned there were 3 groups of two before us and put us in the waiting list. The thing is a lot of diners were leaving and almost half of their tables were vacant. We just saw two people in front, too. Alright, call those people quickly and confirm if they were coming or not – we thought it wouldn’t take long.
Those two finally were called in. No sign of the other 2 groups for almost half an hour. I signalled my partner to just leave and find other more decent place; it’s off lunch time and yes, I was unbearably hungry! Not sure but that day he just was so patient and we decided to wait a little bit longer.
Some random groups (not of 2 as the greeter mentioned) got in and immediately were seated. Okay, I was totally pissed off after that. Only 10-15 minutes afterwards we were called in, while there were almost 10 seats were empty. What kind of service is this?
As we had already browsed on one-page-menu when we waited, upon seated we waived to make order ASAP. A lady told us to wait, (3 minutes) no other sign. We called another lady who were cleaning our table behind us, as expected we also were told to wait. The first lady finally came back with 2 cups of water and took our order (PHEWWWW)
We picked Beef steak toast (牛排吐司) and Burger patty toast (漢堡排吐司). For beverage we ordered SAMOVA Darjeeling tea which they specially termed it 親密愛人. I did a little bit of googling and actually it is SAMOVA’s original tea name which is High Darling in English.
Beef steak toast was kind of deceiving. Why? I thought there were two pieces of real beef steak, but my partner said only one was, the other one was similar to my patty. 🙁
First impression of the place was quite cozy, food taste was not bad, and price wise…well considered normal brunch set includes juice/tea/coffee, Toast Heaven’s price is similar too then. Minus point however, is on their service and management; can lack of experience be a justification of their unprofessionalism? (Hope they will improve!)
Note: Imagine how pissed you will feel if you are still forced to wait (real 30 minutes wait, not just for mere 5) outside when there are empty seats available as shown in the last 3 photos? 😡 This is why we subjectively give low rating for them.
